2021 marks 35 years of business for Big Red Carpet Cleaners, having been trusted with our clients’ numerous rugs and carpets over our many years of carpet cleaning, we thought it would only be right that we take some time to discuss how carpet cleaning has changed and evolved over the past 3 decades, not only to be able to clean carpets better than ever before but to also do so with minimal impact to our environment.
Equipment and Technology
Before the turn of the century, equipment was far more inadequate compared to what we have today. Machines were much more labour intensive, large, and unwieldy, built with minimal capacity. The number of technicians required to clean a carpeted area was far greater than it is today and with no batteries or cordless equipment, hard to reach areas were out of the question for professional cleaners. With improvements in technology, much more power can be squeezed into far smaller systems, allowing us to clean multiple thousands of square feet of carpet in a day while ensuring that each square inch is as clean as possible.
Hot Water Extraction has not existed as long as many think it has. Older machines could dispense and extract water however the heating element is relatively new and was introduced closer to the turn of the century, today’s machines can send pressurised steam and water at more than 100 degrees, to force dirt and stains out from the deepest parts of the carpet and sanitise the surface at the same time.
As the times have changed, the demand has increased for shorter downtimes so that people can get back to work quicker. With the technology available today, Big Red ensures up to 95% of the moisture in the carpet is extracted before we leave the premises, in some cases the carpet is completely dry just an hour after the cleaning is done!
Health and Safety
With more and more focus on green cleaning, more companies are providing chemicals that not only do an excellent job at removing stains and dirt out of your rugs and carpets but also cause minimal impact to the environment. Most chemicals that we use are environmentally friendly and also safe for those cleaning and working in the carpeted environment, with more awareness of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) this too has become an important topic in the carpet cleaning industry.
All chemicals we use have also become far more targeted in terms of the carpet or rug they are to be used on. Each fibre type has its own set of cleaning procedures and solutions to ensure that they are cleaned to the highest standards. There are no more all-in-one products that claim to do it all, reducing wastage of chemicals.
Anti-Microbial Treatment and carpet sanitizing have also come much further with advances in technology and scientific testing. We now offer services to clean water damaged carpets and apply coatings to prevent mold from taking hold and growing on the carpets. Preventing the harm of dangerous mold growing and spreading in our workplaces and homes.
