Different Carpet Cleaning Methods
While steam cleaning, also known as hot water extraction, is the most effective carpet cleaning method, dry cleaning, foam cleaning and bonnet buffing are the other options. What you choose ultimately depends on the carpet material, types of contaminants, available drying time, as well as health issues of people in the vicinity of the carpet. Here are the different carpet cleaning methods (a Singapore Carpet Cleaning Guide):
Not every carpet needs the same treatment. Here are the four main professional cleaning methods, what each is best at and the factors that decide which one to use.
Dry cleaning
Uses heat and chemicals to break down oily build-up, with fast drying. Good when stubborn stains remain.
Foam cleaning
A cross between shampooing and dry cleaning. The foam attracts soil and dust, which is then vacuumed away.
Bonnet buffing
A rotating buffer scrubs in a cleaning mixture. Best for surface maintenance, not deep cleaning.
Steam cleaning
Also called hot-water extraction, the most effective method. High-pressure hot water lifts dirt and microbes from the fibres.
Choosing a method
The best choice depends on the carpet material, the type of contaminant, the foot traffic, the drying time you can allow and any health issues in the household.
