Cleaning and conditioning a leather sofa in a Singapore home

Leather does not absorb dirt the way fabric does, but it still collects body oils, sweat, dust and hand grime, especially on the arms, headrests and seat. Left on the surface, that build-up dries the leather out, dulls its finish and, over time, leads to cracking. Leather needs cleaning and conditioning, not soaking, and that is a different process from fabric.

Big Red cleans leather sofas gently by hand. We lift the grime and oils with a leather-safe cleaner, then condition the hide to restore suppleness and protect the finish. There is no flooding and no harsh chemical, so the leather comes up clean, soft and even, without the dryness or stickiness the wrong product leaves behind.

We have cared for Singapore's furniture since 1986, to a standard trusted by the island's leading hotels and offices. Our technicians are IICRC and CRI certified, and every clean is backed by our 30-Day Delight guarantee. If a sofa is beyond cleaning and needs more, we will tell you honestly rather than sell you a clean that will not help.

How it works

  1. Inspect the leather

We check the leather type and finish and its overall condition, and flag anything a clean will not fix.

  2. Gentle clean

A leather-safe cleaner lifts oils and grime by hand from the arms, headrests and seat, with no soaking.

  3. Condition

A conditioner is worked into the hide to restore suppleness and protect the finish against future drying.

  4. Buff and finish

The leather is buffed to an even, soft finish and is ready to use straight away.

What to expect

  • Body oils and hand grime lifted from arms, headrests and seats
  • The leather conditioned to stay supple and resist cracking
  • The finish cleaned and protected, not dried out or left sticky
  • Cleaned by hand with no soaking, ready to use straight away

Frequently asked questions

Can you restore cracked or peeling leather?

Cleaning and conditioning improves supple leather and slows future drying. Deep cracks or peeling are damage rather than dirt, and we will give you an honest assessment first.

Can you clean faux or bonded leather (PU)?

Yes, gently. Bonded and PU leather can peel with age, so we clean it carefully and tell you honestly what a clean will and will not achieve.

Will cleaning change the colour of my leather?

No. The leather is cleaned and conditioned to keep its finish, and it is tested on a hidden area first.

How often should a leather sofa be cleaned?

Every 6 to 12 months keeps leather conditioned and helps prevent the drying and cracking that come from built-up oils.

Do you also clean fabric sofas?

Yes. Fabric sofas are cleaned by hot water extraction, a different process suited to woven upholstery.
